Sookie Brarou

On Saturday 15/02/2020, as part of "A Saturday with an Artist", come and discover the work of Sookie Brarou

Sookie Brarou is a digital collagist. Based on photographic fragments, she composes surreal scenes, which resonate like postcards from another universe. The concepts of scales, gravity and perspectives are called into question through themes such as the conquest of space, femininity and climatic upheavals. His collages are made from digitally reworked photos. The creation process for each of them is invariably unique in that the cutouts, scales and colors are redesigned until their fragments seem to have been made to be assembled. With these two awards and his position as a finalist in numerous international art competitions, Sookie will present at Happy Day Ixelles a selection of screen, UV and inkjet prints.

"Photographer recently, I embarked on this adventure in 2016, following the birth of my daughter.

So much in love with what could emerge a photo, I decided to make a passion...

I try everything, letting my camera go random encounters and travel, this story that can be told in one image fascinates me.

I did not do a school of photography. I rather spent time looking at the pictures of others... it made me want to let my heart talk to the movements of emotions all around me.

To be able to share this experience with you, gives me only one desire, to continue..."

Marie Lebrun

This Brussels woman will present her paintings where figuration takes a large place.

Marie:

"A story of gaze. Where we look and where we look, at the same time.

Trial and error. Attempt to give body to the gaze, to capture its movement. See the body and what is behind the body. See inside and through, dig the way of the look on the canvas, in the hollow of the absence. See what's around what I don't see. Go to the inability to say. Sometimes the figure may appear, as if by chance. "

Domenica Frieri

Photographer since my 10 years, in another country and another century, I created my professional studio in Ixelles in 2017. My photography practice is quite varied - commercial and voluntary, for companies and individuals, in the studio and on the street, from wedding halls to concert halls.

At the same time, I am especially interested in people, their faces, their looks, their souls. Each photographic encounter is an adventure, a game, both for the subject and for the photographer. Take risks, try, see yourself, with pleasure, with love. "

COLLEEN PLATBROOD

"A Saturday with an Artist": Colleen Platbrood

Colleen: "Why the naked man?

First, I want to tell you that for me, it's very difficult to put me naked, I'm very shy, very secretive...

That's why I wanted to express myself through my photos, my art, what I can not express myself!

By making these pictures, I feel free and always secret because my models do not express any emotions which leaves free rein to your imaginations, to your emotions.

Nudity is for me neither an aspect nor an insult but just a state of mind.

For me, it's freedom, to be free in your body, in your head.

I hope I could by my photos, share this one with you! "

On Saturday 02/29/2020, come and meet a young photographer, a student at VUB, who mixes portrait with urban photography.

Kate:

« I started to take pictures as a child with an old point-and-shoot camera. This soon became not only my hobby but a part of my life. Art and photography schools that I attended taught me not to look but, rather, to see: moments, emotions and beauty of the world in small things. My main interests are street photography and lately photoshoots for people who want to remember their time in the beautiful city of Brussels.»
